Dear Members,
We are pleased to relay, on behalf of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), an invitation to take part in the Early Market Engagement process for the Upgradation of Pakistan Railways Main Line-1 (Karachi–Rohri Section) Project, a flagship railway modernization program in Pakistan.
The project covers a corridor of approximately 480 km of double-line track, with an indicative cost of USD 2.5 billion and an expected upgrade period of two and a half to three years. The corridor is of major strategic importance, carrying 76% of the country’s passenger traffic and 98% of its freight traffic, and serving 73% of Pakistan’s population along with key industrial zones. Financing is expected to be led by the ADB, with co-financing currently being explored with AIIB, EIB, the World Bank, and IsDB.
The indicative scope of works includes track reconstruction and limited realignments, as well as the rehabilitation of bridges, structures, stations, freight yards and buildings across the Keamari–Landhi, Landhi–Hyderabad, Hyderabad–Nawabshah and Nawabshah–Rohri sections. It also includes the upgradation of Walton Academy, full-corridor signaling and telecommunications works, and Project Management and Construction Supervision Consultant (PMCSC) services.
For members wishing to learn more about the project, its procurement approach and the opportunities it represents, an information webinar will be held on 8 September 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (PKT). The session will provide an update on project progress, procurement packaging strategy, qualification criteria, and participation modalities.
Registration for the webinar is available here: https://forms.gle/
For any further questions, the project team can also be reached via WhatsApp at +92-333-5369790, or by email at pdpiu@pakrail.gov.pk.
