The famous Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton “Stan,” which is 11.7 meters long, will be one of the museum’s main attractions. It is considered one of the best-preserved and most studied fossils of this predatory creature from the late Cretaceous period, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“Stan,” who lived 67 million years ago, will continue to support scientific research and studies worldwide through its new home at the Abu Dhabi Museum of Natural History.
In addition to “Stan,” the museum will also house the Murchison meteorite, which has provided scientists with new information about the early formation of the solar system.

Museum Design
The museum was designed by the architectural firm Mecanoo to resemble natural rock formations, reflecting its goal of enhancing the understanding of the natural world. The building uses pentagonal geometry as its central theme, mimicking the cellular structure of the natural world. Water and plant life play a fundamental role in the design, symbolizing life in the desert. In addition to exhibition areas, the museum will also include facilities and temporary exhibition spaces for special events.
