From the perspective of strengthening Arab contracting and affirming that Arab development should be achieved through Arab minds and hands, developing economic capabilities, prioritizing Arab products, and utilizing material and human resources to serve comprehensive and sustainable economic and social development in pursuit of common Arab interests, the Arab Contractors Union considers achieving this as one of its most significant national duties and responsibilities for building a prosperous and stable Arab society.
The Union aims to establish and strengthen professional ties between contractors in Arab countries to enhance and develop the contracting sector in technical, economic, financial, human, and administrative fields. It seeks to elevate the contracting profession in Arab countries, particularly in construction and public works, to an outstanding level, supporting Arab contractors and encouraging them to undertake various construction projects across the Arab world while defending their legitimate material and moral rights.
Union Activities
The Arab Contractors Union communicates and coordinates with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Council of Arab Economic Unity, the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction, the council’s scientific advisory committee, the university’s organization and services council, the Housing and Water Resources Administration of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing, and all relevant bodies in Arab countries regarding efforts to enhance the role of Arab contractors, facilitate their work, and grant them priority in executing major and significant Arab projects. Additionally, it encourages Arab, African, and Islamic funding institutions to prioritize Arab contractors in funded projects. The Union also advocates for the rights and interests of Arab contracting companies and works to create a favorable environment for their operations with high efficiency and quality.
The Union is also engaged in developing unified standards for contractor classification across Arab countries for several critical reasons. These include standardizing professional practice regulations across the Arab world and providing governments and financial institutions with a comprehensive database of qualified contractors capable of executing major projects beyond their home countries. This initiative also aims to facilitate partnerships between contracting companies across Arab countries by eliminating administrative and classification-related obstacles that have previously hindered cross-border collaboration. Moreover, one of the key requirements for activating the Arab Free Trade Area and establishing the Arab Common Market is the development of unified qualification and classification criteria for Arab contractors.
The General Secretariat maintains continuous communication with all members via email, telephone, the Union’s website, and its official social media pages, keeping them informed of all news and developments in the Arab contracting sector. Members are also notified about Union meetings, seminars, conferences, and related activities.
The Union actively engages with its members to receive information about available projects in their respective countries as soon as they are announced. This allows the Union to disseminate this information to all contractor federations across Arab countries, enabling their companies to participate in these tenders. Additionally, an agreement has been made to establish a database within the Union to catalog all planned and ongoing reconstruction projects, providing detailed insights into the value, scope, and type of work involved. This database will be accessible to all qualified Arab companies interested in executing these projects.
Furthermore, the Union maintains communication with various specialized Arab federations to coordinate efforts on construction and building-related matters, particularly with the Arab Engineers Union and the Arab Lawyers Union. It also collaborates with Arab banks and insurance companies to facilitate the work of Arab contracting firms and coordinates with local banks in Arab countries to resolve credit and financial challenges faced by Arab contractors
