The Eighth Arab Housing Conference, titled “Urban Development and Sustainable Construction: Challenges and Hopes,” was held in the Algerian capital from December 17 to 19. The conference was organized by the Algerian Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning and the City in cooperation with the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Planning at the Arab League, on the sidelines of the (41) session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Planning. Held under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the conference discussed urban planning mechanisms to achieve resilient and safe cities capable of resilience and sustainability. It also highlighted the importance of green buildings, the use of environmentally friendly building materials, best practices for achieving sustainable development and quality of life, and defining standards for adequate housing to meet the needs of various segments of society. The conference also aimed to present shared Arab visions for addressing current and future urban challenges in the Arab world, develop innovative solutions and effective mechanisms, and highlight pioneering experiences and projects in the field of smart and sustainable cities. The Federation of Arab Contractors participated in the conference, represented by Federation member Ms. Samia Makhloufi, President of the Algerian Employers and Contractors Organization, and Mr. Falah Masoud, Secretary-General of the organization. Presentations and studies were presented by researchers and officials from Arab countries, including the Jordanian experience in urban development and economic modernization, as well as the Egyptian experience in governance, legislation, and building codes. The Algerian experience in construction and the field of adequate housing was also presented. Among the presentations were “The Somali Experience in Reconstructing Areas Affected by Conflict and Disasters,” as well as the prospects and challenges of green construction in Libya.
